Original Art - Solar: Man of the Atom #8 cover

One of the reasons I started this was so that there would be somewhere I could store all the awesome original black and white cover line art scans I ran across. I'm making some progress on a complete collection of black and white ink art posts of every pre-UNITY Valiant comic. So far I've got X-O Manowar #1X-O Manowar #2X-O Manowar #4 and Harbinger #6. Here is another post (sort of) in that series. This time it's the cover art for Solar: Man of the Atom by Stan Drake and Don Perlin. Behold the cover in all its black and white glory:

Valiant Market - X-O Manowar #1 page 26

A new post in my series on recent interesting Valiant sales (you can find the first in the series here, the second here and the third here). This one was suggested by a reader so much thanks to him for pointing this sale out! These posts are meant to track original art sales of pages that are in high demand and appear very rarely such as pages from UNITY or Deathmate Prologue, splash pages etc.

Today we have a page from X-O Manowar #1 by Barry Windsor-Smith. A little while ago I posted another page from the same book, the very next page in the book in fact. That page sold for a final price of $1,525. Today's page is equally exciting, has a little less X-O Manowar but a little more action and our first clear look at a Spider Alien face! Check out the beautiful page here:

Today's page sets a new record at $1,625 plus shipping on ebay. That is by far the highest price I have ever seen for an interior page of Valiant Barry Windsor-Smith art. Higher than his splash pages have sold for. More than double this Deathmate page he did with Jim Lee. Almost double this UNITY page, which is more exciting, from a more important book and is one of just 16. And in line with the price of page 27 from the same book.

Valiant Market - Magnus Robot Fighter #19 cover Original Art

Heritage recently auctioned a nice Barry Windsor-Smith Wizard Magazine X-O Manowar cover and now we have the final price for another Heritage Auction. This time the cover to Magnus Robot Fighter #19 by Ralph Reese. Sold for a very surprising $2,151!

Interesting to note that the piece was sold as part of the Shamus Modern Masterworks Collection....as in Gareb Shamus, founder of Wizard Magazine.

Valiant Market - Wizard the Comics Magazine #7 original art

Time for another Valiant Market post! This time we have the Heritage Auction for Barry Windsor-Smith's X-O Manowar cover to Wizard the Comics Magazine #7. A good looking piece of art, one of the first X-O Manowar pieces ever created and a well known cover. Sold for a very surprising $3,585!

Interesting to note that the piece was sold as part of the Shamus Modern Masterworks Collection....as in Gareb Shamus, founder of Wizard Magazine.

Mags - Comic Shop News #248

Cover to Comic Shop News #248 featuring the cover to Archer & Armstrong #0 by Barry Windsor-Smith.

Original Art - Rai #6 cover

I'm trying to put together a complete collection of black and white ink art posts of every pre-UNITY Valiant comic. So far I've got X-O Manowar #1X-O Manowar #2X-O Manowar #4 and Harbinger #6. Here is another post (sort of) in that series. This time it's the cover art for a UNITY book - Rai #6 by Frank Miller. Now what's interesting about the UNITY covers is they were all done by only 3 different artists (Barry Windsor-Smith, Frank Miller and Walt Simonson) and none of them were ever sold until now. This cover is the first (that I know of) to reach the collector market and therefore the first to be scanned in all its black and white glory.

Behold.

Harada Protocol Teaser

Valiant's latest teaser hints at something very bad happening to Toyo Harada in Harbinger Wars #2...something to do with the Harada Protocol.

Harbinger Wars #2

Shadowman Teaser

One of my favorite teasers that Valiant released was this 'interactive' teaser that announced the Shadowman series:

Shadowman

The teaser seems all black until you look a little more carefully and see Shadowman come out of the darkeness!! Check out the inverted version:

Are You Different Teaser

I'm on a run with the teasers (see here and here) so why not show off the teaser that announced the return of Faith Herbert aka Zephyr to Harbinger and to the Valiant Universe!

Faith Herbert aka Zephyr

Enter: Ninjak Teaser

Valiant has some proved that they are capable of stellar design work. One of the best examples is the teasers they use to build excitement for their events. You can check out the Summer of Valiant 2012 Teasers here. But for now, feast your eyes on one of my favorite covers from the new Valiant, the cover to X-O Manowar #5 and the start of the Enter: Ninjak arc.

X-O Manowar #5 "Enter: Ninjak"

It should also be noted that this was the new Valiant's first crossover. Unless, of course, you count that Eternal Warrior cameo in X-O Manowar #1.

Summer of Valiant 2012 Teasers

Valiant has exhibited some incredible design work (they went out and got Rian Hughes to design their covers and probably these too) and I'm going to showcase a little bit of that here with the four Summer of Valiant 2012 teasers they released to announce the launch titles they returned with.
