Harbinger Letter of the Month

What makes Harbinger such a great book? Why was it awarded Most Important Comic Book of the Decade? Because, like the characters that inhabit its world, it is different. I found this letter published in Harbinger #18 and thought it summed up nicely some of the reasons Harbinger is special...probably why it was published as Letter of the Month. Check it out.

Mags - Comic Shop News #376

Got another scan of an issue of Comics Shop News with a Valiant cover. This time it's issue #376 with a Magnus Robot Fighter in NY cover by Sean Chen. Check it out.

Original Art - Shadowman #13 cover

One of my favorite covers from any book is the cover to Shadowman #13. Today, I have a scan of the black and white ink art for this cover. Check it out below.

For comparison, here is the printed version.

Ads - Rai monthly begins

Check this old school advertisement for the debut of the monthly Rai comic book by Valiant Comics.

One thing they were definitly trying to communicate it with this advertisement is just how unique the series was going to be. Check out the giant purple ball creature in space (that we know is the orbiting dragon form of Grandmother), the image of our super-hero with a baby and wife, the space setting and the plug that "This is the future of the Valiant Universe". Magnus appears in one of the images to, I assume, lure Magnus Robot Fighter readers. Interestingly, the Valiant logo is not prominent.

Valiant Production Error - Archer & Armstrong #0

When you're as popular as Valiant is you print a lot of books (especially in the early 90s!), and when you print a lot of books a few production errors sneak out. A few even look pretty cool. I'm creating a series of posts entitled "Valiant Production Error" to showcase some of these crazy errors. The most famous example of the Valiant production error is of course the Harbinger blank coupon. They were so rare that until recently many people believed they didn't exist. Well today we're not talking about them.

Today we are starting off with a basic ink misprint (and kind of a lame error to kick this series off...oh well, I'm committed already) on the cover of Archer & Armstrong #0. Check it out:

Valiant Influences: Malcolm In The Middle

Check out these screen caps from the TV show Malcolm In The Middle, they feature the character Dewey reading none other than Archer & Armstrong #16!

And here is a scan of the issue itself:

Valiant Influences: 52 (DC Comics)

The mega event 52 by DC Comics is one of the best recent examples of a company wide effort to tell good stories and is a shining example of how to take the innovations Valiant accomplished to the next level. It's fitting then that issue #22 features a Magnus Robot Fighter cover homage. Check out "Magnus: Robot Hunted" below.
