100 Greatest Comic Book Characters of the Past 20 Years - Eternal Warrior & X-O Manowar

Some blog called Fluit Notes created an alphabetical list of their 100 Greatest Comic Book Characters of the Past 20 Years in two parts. The writer admits not having read many Valiant comics but does list two on the list - The Eternal Warrior and X-O Manowar.

Check out what he has to say about each in the below exceprts.

Eternal Warrior:
The independent companies of the 1990s were often accused of copying the heroes of the Big Two.  But, on occasion, their versions were superior.  Marvel had Gilgamesh, the forgotten eternal one.  Valiant had Gilad, a hundred lifetimes of experience in someone who didn’t seem out of place in the modern world.
 X-O Manowar:
X-O Manowar was a medieval barbarian abducted by aliens who escaped with a super-suit and showed up in the modern world.  Simultaneously ahead of and behind the times, X-O Manowar was the best of the iron heroes.

Mags - CMJ New Music Monthly #55

CMJ New Music Monthly (never heard of it either) has a review of the first Quantum & Woody trade paperback - Quantum & Woody: Director's cut.

Check out the review below (click to enlarge).

Comic Books That Need To Be Films - #4 Quantum & Woody

There's a cool article on the Waiting for Wednesday blog in which they list their top 12 comic books that need to make the leap to movies. Some great choices on the list including Green Arrow and The Boys. Quantum & Woody makes the list at #4 (though it really should be higher). Check out Comic Books That Need To Be Films or read the excerpt below.

This is one of the funniest and most entertaining comics I’ve ever read! Eric is a military man and Woody is nothing but a goofy slacker. Quantum and Woody has been called, "the Lethal Weapon of comic books" and think that hits it right on the nose. Quantum fights the bad guys while Woody hits on the damsel in distress.

Original Art - Eternal Warrior #6 cover color art

Found the color art to the famous cover for Eternal Warrior #6 by Barry Windsor-Smith at Comic Art Fans. It's great seeing the cover without the logos and price box. This may be my favorite image of Master Darque. Take a look.

And here is the published cover for comparison (admittedly not the best scan).

Voyager Christmas Party Invite

Found this on a blog. It's a one page (two sided) invite to the Voyager Communications aka Valiant Comics Christmas party and it features an image of Magnus Robot Fighter that I've never seen on the front and the cover of Magnus Robot Fighter #2 with Santa Claus replacing Magnus on the back.

And for comparison, here's the cover to Magnus Robot Fighter #2.

Wish I had a color version of the Santa Magnus Robot Fighter #2 cover!

Mags - Previews Magazine #260

Another entry in the Magazines column. This time something recent - Previews Magazine promoting the new Dark Horse reboot of the Gold Key characters by Jim Shooter. The cover features a very cool painted image of Dr. Solar. Check it out below.

Single Bound Studios

A popular trend about comic book readers / collectors is to create bound collections of your favorite series. I just stumbled across a company called Single Bound Studios that has tapped this niche market and creates high quality bound editions of comic books. They've done quite a few Valiant Comics collections (showing the market for similar official products). Check them out.
